This application photo series is from the Seattle Central Library (called in some news reports as one of the top 30 buildings in the world) located in Seattle, WA. The 11-story library features a contemporary innovative design consisting of “diamond shaped” glass and steel exterior with an open, inviting interior focused on modern digital technology. It established a significant new benchmark for sustainable building programs across the country, and outperforms the Seattle energy code by 10%.
The new library was designed to stress innovation in sustainability and user-friendliness. The lighting design was done by Tillotson Design Associates. The project was a joint venture by the award-winning Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), and LMN Architects of Seattle. Electrical engineering was provided by Arup. Contracting was managed by Hoffman Construction.
This job was specified by Brazill Lite Tech in New Your City, NY, and sold through Sea-Tac Lighting in Tukwila, WA. Paramount’s A1 Series Aerolux® fixtures (painted in a special Platinum color) were utilized in the stairwells, and our Wet Location C0 & C2 Series Craft Lites® were used in other areas of this architecturally stunning building. The 100+ units use T8 fluorescent technology with electronic controls.
